Question: Hi Paola, tell everyone a little bit about yourself (where you live, family, what you do for a living, etc)
Paola: For the past 13 years I was a therapist at Samaritan Counseling Center. I started my career as a school social worker a little over a year ago in the Mohonasen School District. I resigned from Samaritan Counseling mid-December. I live in Guilderland with my husband and two sons ages 9 and 11.
Q: What was your experience level with athletics prior to CrossFit?
P: Prior to CrossFit, I did a lot of running and worked with weights at home. I participated in many road races of all distances, including several half-marathons and one full marathon.
Q: Why did you start doing CrossFit?
P: I needed something different, as I was getting very bored with running.
Q: How long have you been doing CrossFit?
P: About two years
Q: What is your favorite thing about CrossFit and CrossFit Aevitas?
P: That it is always different. I never look at the workout prior to coming in the the class because I’m usually intimidated. Once I complete a workout, I feel like I’ve accomplished something for the day.
Q: Favorite CrossFit movement and why?
P: I don’t know. I like back squats and am learning to like overhead squats, even though anything overhead is terrifying.
Q: Least favorite CrossFit movement and why?
P: I hate deadlifts. I can lift a great deal, yet I am always sore afterwards. I am completely frustrated with pull-ups, as I have been working on them forever and feel like I will never get there! But you show up again and keep trying.
Q: Most memorable WOD/workout and why?
P: The 9-11 workout we did on 9/11/16. It was a partner workout. There were 11 rope climbs per round and 9 bear complexes. There were thousands of meters of rowing to buy-in and cash-out. I remember thinking, 'I don’t know if I’m ever going to finish this WOD', as there was a time cap and I just wanted it to be over. We completed every single rope climb. My partner and I did not finish within the time cap (we were way over!) yet kept working until we were done.
Q: What are your fitness goals?
P: To stay healthy and keep getting stronger.
Q: In what areas have you improved the most since you began at CrossFit Aevitas?
P: I can now do one pull-up. Only took me two years to get there. I’ve definitely gotten stronger with all of the lifting movements we do. I’ve even learned some CrossFitty moves like double unders and rope climbs.
Q: Last one: What is the one food you’d hate to give up?
P: Friendly's Vienna Mocha Chunk
