Our CrossFit Aevitas family is full of the most amazing people! This Aevitas Athlete Spotlight segment is all about Andrew Patterson. If you don't know Andrew yet, this should give you a peek into who he is, and why we decided to spotlight him! If you do know Andrew already, keep reading - you might learn something that you didn't know before!


Question: Hi Andrew, tell everyone a little bit about yourself (where you live, family, what you do for a living, etc)

Andrew: I grew up in Ballston Spa, Moved to Guilderland in High School, and I have been in Guilderland since. I went to The College of Saint Rose and Studied Computer Science.


Q: What was your experience level with athletics prior to CrossFit?

A: I played Lacrosse and Football, but couldn’t continue after getting injured. I was just working out lifting at Planet Fitness and Vent Fitness before trying CrossFit.


Q: How long have you been doing CrossFit?

A: I have been doing CrossFit for a little over a year and a half now.


Q: What is your favorite thing about CrossFit and CrossFit Aevitas?

A: My Favorite thing about CrossFit has to be the community. If I am traveling for work or just traveling around there is always a CrossFit box to find and go to wherever I am. All of the members are always nice and will always go out of their way to engage you in a conversation if they don’t recognize you.

The things I love about Aevitas also has to be the community of great people I have met since joining. Everyday that I come into the gym there’s always someone to have a conversation with about the WOD or how you’re feeling from the previous day’s workout, or just to talk about life or things going on outside of the gym.


Q: Favorite CrossFit movement and why?

A: Hmmm, I’d have to say Double Unders. They were very difficult for me to get good at but after practicing them I love them!


Q: Least favorite CrossFit movement and why?

A: I’d have to say Pistols! Such a difficult thing for such a simple movement


Q: Most memorable WOD/workout and why?

A: The most memorable workout I have done is Murph the first time. It really put into perspective the suffering and commitment that all of the armed forces do for this country each and every day. If I can suffer a little to show some respect and appreciation for those guys and girls, I will.


Q: In what areas have you improved the most since you began doing CrossFit?

A: Other than just being more athletic and in better shape, CrossFit has done so much for me. Before joining CrossFit I would just put on my headphones with some loud angry music and go through the motions at the local gym, and I would get mad at anyone who would get in my way.

Since joining CrossFit I have changed so much. I can actually talk and have good conversations with people, I don’t get mad easily anymore, I am a lot more talkative and my parents have even noticed a huge change.


Q: What are some of your interests and hobbies outside of CrossFit?

A: I am a giant nerd so I love all of the Marvel and DC Superhero movies and shows. I also really love to cook in my spare time.


Q: Name a movie you have seen more than any other.

A: Saving Private Ryan!


Q: Last one: what is your dream job?

A: Stand-up Comedian or Executive Chef.
