This weekend, members from both Aevitas locations as well as surrounding area gyms came together to compete in the 2020 Aevitas Obstacle Course Race. The weather was perfect, the energy was high, and the experience was like no other! Congrats to all of the competitors!
Let’s Get This Thing Started…
Coach Zephyr kicked the morning off with an athlete briefing. During this mandatory meeting, all of the obstacles were described in detail, and athletes had a chance to ask questions before the starting bell rang.
A few of the obstacles were unknown to the racers until the morning of the race, which added some excitement to the air!
Once the obstacles were described, racers were divided into heats and lined up near the starting area.
To begin, everyone started with a run on the beautiful Zim Smith Trail. Participants in the “Sprint” category headed off for an 800m run, while the “Super” distance competitors took on their first 1600m run of the day!
The Race at a Glance:
Once runners returned from their first run, they transitioned to the outdoor rig for a traverse. Then back onto the trail for more running! The course alternated between running on the trail and obstacles in the parking lot throughout the rest of the race.
Obstacles included wall climbs, spear throws, tire flips, sled pushes, a rig traverse, a static hang on the rig, and even a hill sprint/burpee challenge!
Racers worked their way through the course, while volunteers cleaned off equipment and directed athletes to their next challenge. As a requirement, athletes attempted all obstacles. Any failed obstacle resulted in a 20-burpee penalty. The burpee penalty was, of course, taken in stride by these fire-breathers!
A Photo Finish!
Finally, after completing all nine challenges and either three or six miles of running, athletes crossed the finish line! Everyone cheered each other on as they worked their way through different portions of the course. Many smiling faces could be spotted throughout the day!
In the end, the top male and female in each division were awarded a prize of a GORUCK gift card, allowing them to gear up and start training for the next event!
We were lucky enough to have not one but TWO photographers at the event, and have an album of pictures for your viewing and downloading! Hello, new profile pic!
Racing For A Cause
This event was free for all participants, as a way to show our gratitude for the continued support of the Aevitas community.
Additionally, as part of the race, we decided to contribute to a local charitable cause. On the day of the race, we collected money and school supplies to help the United Way’s United for School Success Project
We are keeping the donation line open through Sunday, September 6th for anyone who wishes to contribute! Please use the Aevitas Donation Form to designate a donation amount, or bring cash or items into the gym next time you hit a workout!
THANK YOU to everyone who already contributed! We raised over $200 and various school supply items on the day of the race.
Great Job, Racers!
Congratulations to our winners, and to all of the competitors who took the day by storm and challenged themselves. Several athletes running the race had never completed an Obstacle Course Race before. We’re so glad they came out to try this one with our amazing community!
We CANNOT WAIT to do this again!
