Meet Sue

This post has been a long time coming! Sue Murphy has been an athlete at CrossFit ÆVITAS for several months now. She continues to improve every single day, and her positive attitude and personal story are both very inspirational. We asked Sue to answer a few “get to know you” questions when she joined with us over the winter. Read below to learn a little bit more about this incredible woman!

ÆVITAS: Who are you outside of the gym? Other than ‘CrossFitter’ (a title you’ve earned!), how do you identify yourself?

SUE: Im a single Mom of two girls ages 20 and 15. I work as an adaptive equipment specialist for a local medical equipment provider selling custom wheelchairs and the like.

Æ: Why did you decide to join CrossFit Aevitas?

S: In July 2013 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. In September I had a lumpectomy followed by radiation. I was feeling very discouraged with my lack of energy and not being able to exercise following the surgery. A friend told me about Crossfit ÆVITAS next door to where our girls took dance. We took one boot camp class as a trial and I had so much energy I couldn’t sleep that evening. I was hooked, and insisted I could continue even after nurses and radiation technicians told me I may not be able to do it with the severe burns I would have further into my treatment. They were right and thanks to Chad and Karen I was able to postpone my boot camp until January after I finished radiation.

Æ: What are you most looking forward to/excited about in the coming months/years with us?

S: Every CrossFit session I surprise myself. That excites me. I’m doing things I never thought I could do. I’m pushing myself harder than I’ve ever pushed myself before.

Æ: What are you most apprehensive or nervous about?

S: I’m nervous every time, but that’s the thrill for me.

Æ: What’s one goal you’d like to share?

S: I would like to be able to do 5 pull ups. Then 10. And so on!

Æ: Tell us one thing you’ll never forget about your Boot Camp experience

S: The first day was mind blowing. How much energy I had. I have never enjoyed other forms of exercise as much as this.
