Healthy for the Holidays – Shopping Edition
This is the time of the year when our wallets get thinner while our waistline seems to grow! Stop the madness this year by keeping these tips in mind.

Karen’s Top 5 Tips for Holiday Shopping:
1- Take your time! Plan several hours to shop, and try to enjoy the act of shopping itself. Too often we get caught up in the rush, which leads to more stress- which no one needs! Take joy in the fact that you’re doing something nice for others.
2- Wear comfortable shoes! Especially if you’re going to be out for a while, it’s crucial that you stay comfortable.
3- Bring healthy snacks. This is probably my favorite piece of advice. Too many times we get into “shopping mode” and 4 hours later we are hungy and grumpy and not having a good time at all (in the Southwick household, this is termed “hangry”). Keep a ready-to-eat snack with you so you don’t go running for the food court! A handful of nuts, some cut up carrots and celery, etc.
4- Park far away from the entrance (which may be inevitable), or better yet, shop in an outdoor plaza! Fresh air does wonders to boost your mood and get you into the spirit of the season.
5- Don’t stress! This is obvious, but so often overlooked. Keep in mind that this time of year is about spending time with the ones you love and enjoying the wonderful world we live in.
