Phew! The last 6 weeks flew by during our 6-week Nutrition Bingo Challenge. We had almost 50 participants between both Aevitas and Round Lake. The participants put in the time an effort to see lasting results in their health, nutrition & fitness.
If you see any of the participants around the gym this week, be sure to give them a fist bump or high five to congratulate them for a job well done. Jealous of their success or their prize package? Don’t worry we are working on our next nutrition challenge soon, so stay tuned!
Why Sign Up for a Challenge?
A Challenge is a short-term way of seeing if you can make changes to enhance your overall health. While it is not meant to last forever (in this case only 6 weeks) it certainly should be a nice kick-start for many to improve their health in a positive light. The goal is to use what you learn in the challenge and apply it to your life for the long haul.
A few reasons members gave for joining the challenge were:
Motivation to eat healthier
Looking to reset and improve my nutritional awareness/practice
Guidance for a lifetime of healthy eating
I would like to change my diet so I get better results from my workout and feel healthier overall.
To build sustainable healthy eating habits.
Do this sound like you?? Make sure to join the next challenge!
What Were the Goals of the Challenge?
Most challenges these days revolve around weight loss and calorie restriction. While that may have been some people’s goals, this challenge was anything but. The goal of this challenge was to give people a bird’s eye view of what nutrition and lifestyle habits were needed on a weekly basis to help them improve and optimize their overall health.
The goals of this challenge were to:
Educate members on health & nutrition
Make nutrition & lifestyle changes fun (through the game of bingo)
Take the focus away from just weight and focus on quality of food, quantity of food, body composition, hydration, exercise and movement, and so much more, and
Provide an accountability group to ensure compliance
What is Nutrition Bingo?
Wondering what the challenge entailed?! Participants got a weekly Bingo board that they filled out and earned points for every “Bingo” they got. They also had weekly seminars with Laura and a private group chat that allowed them to ask questions, share wins & struggles, and support one another.
Here’s a sample Bingo Board:
Results of the Challenge
The results of the challenge were amazing, to put it mildly. Participants set goals and stuck to them. Sure they had some bumps along the way but using the support of one another and the goal of earning Bingo points, they all saw improvement in their nutrition education, health, weight/body composition & more.
Here are a few successes & wins participants shared:
My nutrition win for the challenge has been learning to embrace, instead of fear, protein. I can see the wins at the gym with performance and recovery. 1 rep max back squat PR tonight at 185lbs!! Never would have guessed.
I am off soda!! Diet soda. I can count on one hand the number of diet sodas I have had in the past five weeks. And I am choosing unsweetened drinks on the regular. Thanks for that!!!
I was able to drop a few pounds but what I wasn’t expecting was to trim 2” off my waist, add nearly 2” to my chest, and finally seeing my abs again. This has been such a great challenge and I’m looking forward to continuing to use what I learned to fine-tune my commitments to my health and nutrition.
I stopped snacking after 8pm everyday, I also was diligent about drinking my water and finally I was much more conscious of what I was eating!! To me, these are all big wins!
My biggest win this challenge has primarily been getting more fruits and vegetables into my diet each week, which has helped balance out our meals each day. Better sleep and hydration come in as close seconds.
I was a little skeptical that playing bingo was going to change or form habits…. but it worked! By week six, I was hitting half of the boxes without thinking overly hard about them… in particular, avoiding sugary drinks, reducing alcohol intake, increasing water intake and eating those fresh fruits and veggies through the day have all become easier to do
Congratulations to our top 3 Winners from each gym!
Round Lake Winners:
We will let the dust settle from this amazing challenge and hope the participants continue to put their healthy habits into play for all of us to benefit from. Then, we’ll get to working on the next nutrition adventure, stay tuned!
